About

FH&Co

Widely considered one of the finest galleries in the Northwest, FH&Co is a boutique fine art gallery, founded in 2013 in the center of Seattle’s historic district, Pioneer Square.

Frederick Holmes & Company’s dynamic programming consists of a rotating schedule of monthly exhibitions of both emerging contemporary artists from the Pacific Northwest and Nationally. The Gallery’s ongoing presentation of 20th Century Modern includes iconic masters like Picasso, Chagall, Dali, Miro and other highly critical contributors to the canon of European and American avant-garde like Rudolf Bauer, Jimmy Ernst, Rolph Scarlett, Sol LeWitt, Robert Matta, et al. The Gallery is also the exclusive representative of the art-historic estates of Seminal American Modernist, Walter Quirt (1902-1968) and Figurative Expressionist, Oscar Van Young (1906-1991).

"All contemporary art is built on the foundations of those who came before, and reinvigorated with fresh ideas of the next generation."

The gallery’s emphasis is on the collector, regardless of their level of experience, and a friendly, hospitable, educationally-oriented presentation of the gallery’s offerings. Gallery owner Frederick Holmes has over 39 years in the art business, acting in a variety of professional roles, coast to coast. The gallery frequently collaborates with national galleries and dealers to enhance the gallery’s programming and broaden the visibility of Seattle as an increasingly important and viable market for collectors nationwide.

Frederick Holmes

By Peter H. Falk, Chief Curator & Editor/ Discoveries in American Art

In Seattle’s present gallery scene one art dealer — Frederick R. Holmes — has stood out as the leader in introducing collectors to the paintings of early to mid 20th century Modern and Post War artists. His most important accomplishment at his eponymous gallery is the rediscovery of Walter Quirt (1902-1968). Reviewing Sidney Janis’ book, Abstract & Surrealist Art in America, we see a painting by Quirt opposite the page featuring one by Jackson Pollock. Janis described Quirt as

“a maker of a new world."
