A Ten-Person Group Show of American & International Artists
TONY FITZPATRICK & LOU BEACH
Bale Creek Allen, Jason Barrera, Vero Boisel, Nick Bubash, Ashkon Haidari, Heather Horton, Yulia Kuznetsova, & Mary Lou Zelazny.
Artist Reception: May 3, 2018 (First Thursday Art Walk), 6:00-8:30
Ten contemporary artists – American, Russian, Canadian, French – working in a variety of genres and mediums – collage, paintings, sculpture, photography, drawing.
The brainchild of co-curator TONY FITZPATRICK, whose concept it was to gather nine of his favorite artist friends – people whose work he truly admires and personally collects – for an eclectic group show in Seattle. Chicago-based Fitzpatrick is one of the country’s most prominent and respected collage artists/printmakers with work in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and others. His work has been commissioned for album covers by Lou Reed, Steve Earle, and the Neville Brothers, and is a published poet and playwright. He’s appeared in several major motion pictures directed by his friend, the late Jonathan Demme. Currently, he’s starring in the Amazon Prime production, “PATRIOT”, now in it’s second season.
Los Angeles-based LOU BEACH, another prominent collage artist with work in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, is also a published writer, has designed album covers for several famous musicians and bands, and has had solo gallery exhibitions of his comic/surrealist collages nationwide.
“…sweetly uproarious orgasms of juxtaposition.” – HUFFINGTON POST
“Lou Beach..funny, smart, twisted, brilliant..the greatest collage artist on the planet.” – TERRY GILLIAM
“Lou Beach’s art is smart, witty, original, and surprising.” – MATT GROENING
“Original, provocative, definitely outside the box.” – JEFF BRIDGES
“Think Joseph Cornell with a sense of humor.” – CHICAGO MAGAZINE
The exhibition is rounded out by the varied and excellent works by VERO BOISEL(France), HEATHER HORTON (Canada), YULIA KUZNETSOVA (formerly of Russia); plus BALE CREEK ALLEN (Austin, TX) and NICK BUBASH (Pittsburgh, PA;) and ASHKON HAIDARI, JASON BARRERA, & MARY LOU ZELAZNY (all 3 Chicago-based). With the exception of Tony Fitzpatrick, this will be their first gallery show in Seattle. While they’re all practicing career artists with distinctive visual languages of their own creation, they share the common language of skill, imagination, and dedication to the work…
