YIANNIS STYLIANIDES: DREAMS OF METAMORPHOSIS August 4 - 13, 2016
This unique exhibition is the celebrated Cypriot artist’s only No. American appearance and follows his successful solo show in Monte Carlo. A highly respected architect by profession, Stylianides began following his artistic muse only a few years ago and has achieved international acclaim throughout Europe and his native Cyprus. Following this Seattle exhibition, the artist leaves to oversee the installation of his next one-person show in Doha, Qatar.
The exhibition will include a series of paintings created using a unique process the artist developed and calls “Constructive Torching”. Having created his own composition of paints, he uses a blowtorch to apply the paint on wood. This method creates a fascinating texture and gives the painting a three-dimensional quality that allows the viewer to see the painting from all angles.
Drawing from his skills as an architect, the exhibition will also feature a selection of his highly coveted signature series, “Cities” – intricately sculpted and painted wood panels, depicting plan views of cities, and several of his sculptures. Ten Days Only!
